PASSERIFORMES: Menuridae
Menura novaehollandiae
What could possibly be better than spending several hours on a cold rainy Victorian winter's day splodging through the mud in a cold wet Victorian rainforest?
Silly question, but where better to see cold wet Superb Lyrebirds than on a cold wet day in a Victorian rainforest?
The lyrebirds looked wet but they didn't look too cold. They seemed to be having a good time really, scratching around in the leaf-litter, and it warmed the cockles of our little hearts to see them.
We were lucky enough to see four lyrebirds in total on our hike, no leeches (amazing), and to slip over in the mud no more than once or twice each.
